Schedule: Spring '95, Dr. Beale
Prerequisite: Any ECE 600/700 level or INFT 800/900 level controls class, or POI.
Text: Control System Synthesis: A Factorization Approach, by M. Vidyasagar,
MIT Press, 1985, Chapters 1 - 6.
Objectives: To develop students' ability in various topics of robust control theory,
particularly in the area of simultaneous stabilization.
Project #1
Project #2
Course Outline, Spring '95:
Chapter 1 -- Introduction, definitions of multivariable and robust control, form for the
standard control problem, performance characteristics and limitations.
Chapter 2 -- Mathematical preliminaries, rings and fields, Euclidian domains, rings of proper
stable transfer functions, coprime factorizations.
Chapter 3 -- Scalar system, factorization of transfer functions, parametrization of all
controllers which stabilize a system, strongly stable systems, simultaneous stabilization of
SISO systems.
Chapter 4 -- More mathematical preliminaries, coprime factorizations of matrices.
