About the Course

This course is intended to provide the student with a series of lectures and seminars by invited speakers on a variety of topics related to image an video processing. Lectures will be given by:

  1. Professor Monson H. Hayes
  2. Invited special guests
  3. Students enrolled in the course.

It is expected that each student will participate actively in the course, and give at least one short lecture and present some of the research that they are invovled in.

Some special lectures will also be given by Professor Hayes, including:

  1. Understanding Kalman and Particle Filters
  2. Audio-Video Character Recognition
  3. Image Video Processing: The Past, the Present and the Future (Plenary talk given at ICEIC in Bali, January 2013).

Other topics will depend on student interest and background.

 

 

 

 

About Monson H. Hayes

Dr. Hayes is a Professor Emeritus in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Distinguished Foreign Professor at Chung-Ang University in Seoul, Korea. Dr. Hayes received his Sc.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from M.I.T. in 1981 and then joined the faculty in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech. From 2006 until 2011, he was an Assocaite Chair for the School of ECE and Associate Director of Georgia Tech Savannah. In March of 2011, he came to Seoul Korea to further pursue his teaching and research interests.

 Dr. Hayes has become internationally recognized for his contributions to the field of digital signal processing. He has published more than 180 articles in journals and conference proceedings, and is the author of two textbooks, Statistical Digital Signal Processing and Modeling (Wiley, 1996), and Schaum’s Outline on Digital Signal Processing (McGraw-Hill, 1999). His research interests include DSP algorithms, signal modeling, image and video processing, face recognition, multimedia signal processing, and DSP education. His current projects include face recognition for personalization, lane tracking for driver awareness, hand and gesture recognition for multimedia applications, and equation recognition for handheld devices and the classroom.
